Stop seeing things through a cloud of dissatisfaction
We’ve all got friends who are a glass half empty type. They can be hard to be around for long.
The husband of a friend of mine was moaning one Christmas we spent together. He didn’t stop. I told him, as he settled down to snooze “don’t be surprised if you wake and I’m not here. I can’t stay around this much longer”.
And so it passed. I left. No regrets. And had a much better Christmas Day.
His sore pressed wife was sad. But I couldn’t match his pessimism and I refused to let it cloud MY day too.
Sometimes you have to pull away from the storm and seek your own patch of blue sky. Storm clouds are plenty enough without sharing those others are standing other.
If pessimism is your natural way of seeing the order of things, question who’s still hanging out with your viewpoint?
You can bring others along with you all too easily, and why rain on their parade? Why not instead, see life through their eyes?
The lights won’t come on immediately but the more you look for rays of sunshine, the more you’ll find them.
The more you turn away from a bleak outlook, the easier it will become. But you have to start. And before that you have to have a reason to and see the difference it might make to your outlook.
It’s not that others have life easier, or are lucky, or blessed, that causes them more joy and happiness. They Choose to see things from a happier perspective.
It’s all a Choice. I work with people every day who haven’t learnt that they have a Choice. Every day we have opportunities to choose which way we go.
Make a choice to see things differently. Be a cup half full person. As my Grandad used to say, “Get up, and smell the roses”.
How you see it is entirely up to you. It’s up to you if you even notice them or stop to wonder at them as you pass by.
Make a decision today, to see only the good things in your life. The more you notice, the more will appear.
